bodies are independently reviewed and investigated.32 Additionally, as the State relies on the
Iranian legal framework to repress the work of HRDs, access to justice is particularly limited.
In light of the above, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has not ensured that human
rights defenders, including women human rights defenders, and lawyers and journalists are not
threatened with or subjected to intimidation, harassment, arbitrary arrest, deprivation of liberty or
other arbitrary sanction. The Government has not released all those detained in connection with
their work.33
