Additionally, the Political Crimes Bill became law in 2016, despite UN and NGOs’ concerns that the bill further restricts freedom of expression in Iran.36 The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has not considered amending or rescinding laws, policies and parliamentary measures that contravene freedom of expression and restrict access to information, including the Political Crimes Bill.
