creation of a Support and Coordination working group which analyses “ways to support street and working children with the cooperation of the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare”40 and the Monitoring and Assessment working group, which visited “NGOs active in the area of supporting children, specially street, working and educationally deprived children.”41 The National Body has been organizing awareness-raising campaigns. However, there is no readily available information that might indicate the existence of campaigns with a view to eradicate child labour. During its Universal Periodic Review in 2019, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that it established a Working Group against Child Abuse in 2017 and launched a text-messaging platform to combat child abuse in 2017 and that the Ministry of Education implemented a nationwide scheme to prevent violence against children.42 Such awarenessraising efforts against child violence, while not explicitly targeting child labour, may advocate for the protection of victims of illegal and abusive child labour. However, the apparent lack of political will -Iran did not ratify international conventions setting a minimum age for work- might well explain the inexistence of legislative steps taken to prohibit child labour in Iran and the absence of awareness-raising campaigns targeting specifically the eradication of child labour.
